Zoe Hull is a grieving 17-year-old who has grown distant from her father after her mother dies. She goes to a Nebraska high school where four students seize the cafeteria, kill classmates, and stream the attack online. Zoe uses the hunting and survival skills her veteran father taught her to move through the school, rescue students, and face the attackers. The film is a harsh, bloody action thriller with a revenge story underneath its school-shooting plot.
The film gives a teenage girl the main heroic role and shows her as the strongest person in the school, while several other female students and staff members act with courage. Zoe’s friendship with Lewis grows toward a romance, and the film includes a short same-sex relationship suggestion in the shooters’ group. The story also questions school safety rules, news coverage, and the way killers use social media to seek fame. These points are visible but they support a survival story rather than a broad identity or activist message.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Run Hide Fight.
Woke representation / casting
Zoe is a teenage girl who becomes the film’s main fighter and rescuer. Her father’s hunting and survival training explains why she can handle the crisis. The cast also includes a black male best friend who becomes a possible boyfriend, but the film does not frame either choice as a diversity campaign. The story shows brave female students and staff, yet it does not build the plot around identity.
20%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The dialogue does not promote current left-wing politics, identity politics, or activist causes. The film talks about school safety and media coverage, but those points are part of the attack plot.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Zoe’s rise from a grieving student to the person who saves classmates gives the film a clear female empowerment thread. The story often contrasts her action with male students and adults who hesitate or need her help. Her skill comes from training and grief, not from a speech about gender equality. The same-sex material is brief and belongs to a villain subplot, so identity is not the film’s main subject.
28%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The film criticizes school rules that delay a warning during the attack. It shows a school board rule and unarmed staff as failures that leave students exposed. It also attacks news coverage and social media for turning killers into famous figures. These are modern institutional critiques, but they focus on safety and crime rather than patriarchy, whiteness, capitalism, or anti-conservative ideas.
18%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The film uses original characters and is not an adaptation of established canon or historical figures.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A few small or anonymous right-leaning accounts called Zoe a “girl boss” and complained about her black male love interest. The complaints were scattered and had almost no engagement. Larger right-leaning accounts praised the film as non-woke and anti-Hollywood. No organized boycott, review-bomb, or sustained anti-woke campaign appeared.
12%
Creator track record context
The writer and most producers have cached scores from 0 to 2. The casting director has a cached score of 2, and one producer has a low score of 22. The group has conservative media ties, not a woke or activist record. Rankin said he wanted a balanced story about bravery, and no title-linked activist campaign was found.
