In the quiet town of Centerville, police chief Cliff and his partners Ronnie and Mindy face a sudden zombie outbreak. The dead rise after polar fracking knocks Earth off its normal path. People turn into slow zombies who still want the same junk they loved when alive, like coffee, phones, and fancy wine. The tone is dry, silly, and dark at the same time. The film jokes about everyday habits while the town falls apart.
Viewers see a clear climate warning when polar fracking is blamed for the disaster. Zombies chase shopping and gadgets, which turns everyday buying into a joke about empty lives. A mean farmer wears a red hat that twists a political slogan into a racist joke. These beats sit inside the comedy and are easy to notice, but the story stays focused on the slow zombie mess and small-town oddballs.

These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for The Dead Don't Die.
Woke representation / casting

0%
Woke political dialogue
Characters hear news and talk about polar fracking as the cause of the chaos. Farmer Miller's red "Keep America White Again" hat is a clear political joke on screen. There are no long speeches about race, gender, or identity politics. The political lines stay short and sit inside the dry comedy.

Identity-driven story themes

Western institutional / cultural critique
The story blames corporate polar fracking for knocking Earth off balance and starting the zombie end times. Zombies still chase gadgets and shopping habits, and Hermit Bob ends by calling out people who live only for more stuff. The racist slogan hat is a short jab at right-leaning politics. Together these make a mild, clear anti-corporate and anti-consumer satire that average viewers can spot.

Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Some right-leaning or conservative-leaning viewers disliked the climate plot and the mocking slogan hat as left-leaning bias. Jarmusch himself said Trump fans would not enjoy the movie. Complaints stayed small and mostly about politics and entertainment, not a big DEI or casting fight.
16%
Creator track record context
Jarmusch's public record around this film centers on climate fear, corporate greed, and care for the planet. That matches classical left environmental concerns more than identity or representation activism. Other key producers and crew in the cached notes show little or no activist identity focus.
