Arthur returns to a Brooklyn Hasidic neighborhood with his pregnant wife, Claire, after years away from his father Saul. Saul runs the family funeral home, and Arthur hopes that he can mend their broken bond. Arthur also hides money trouble and wants Saul to help him, which makes the return less simple. A dead man arrives at the morgue with an ancient demon inside, and the close rooms become a dark trap for the family.
Claire is a Christian woman entering her husband’s Jewish family, and the movie treats that gap as part of the family tension. Saul tries to welcome Claire while his friend Heimish doubts Arthur’s reasons for coming back. The demon targets Claire and the unborn baby, so fear about parenthood and loss drives the horror. Jewish prayers, burial customs, and a folk demon shape the scares, while the story follows a father, a son, and a wife trying to protect each other.
