John and Laura Taylor are a married couple in New Orleans who desperately want a child after several failed pregnancies. They hire Anna, a young woman to carry their last embryo, and invite her to stay in their guest house after her violent boyfriend attacks her. Anna soon becomes obsessed with John and threatens the family she was meant to help. The film uses a dark, tense thriller tone with sudden violence and melodrama.
John works as a lawyer, while Laura runs a busy kitchen, and both seem successful until their wish for a baby makes them ignore warning signs. Anna first acts as part of a plan to get money, but her jealousy turns the pregnancy into a fight over the baby and the marriage. John and Laura lie and use his false affection to try to control Anna, which leads to more danger. The story focuses on trust, marriage, motherhood, abuse, and the terrible results of letting fear and desire guide major choices.

Creator track record context
Director Jon Cassar and writer Jack Olsen have little documented activist or identity-driven history. The producers mostly have commercial credits and little public identity-politics work. Casting director Twinkie Byrd has a clear record of helping Black and other underrepresented performers, so the team has a mild context signal.
