Bad Thoughts is a TV-MA sketch comedy show built around Tom Segura, who plays many different people instead of one lasting hero. The stories move through homes, offices, planes, hospitals, nursing homes, movie sets, and strange imagined worlds. Small problems, work mistakes, family trouble, sex, and bad choices grow into violence, panic, or gross surprises. The tone is dark, crude, fast, and made to shock more than comfort viewers. Several sketches use identity-related language as part of the joke. Episode 1 has an assassin say he will not assume a target’s pronouns, while Episode 5 makes a pilot challenge a comedian over a disability insult and say that words matter. Episode 6 centers on repeated gay-sex jokes before a man says he is gay, and Season 2 adds a quick joke about a young woman saying she came out as bisexual for attention. The show treats these moments as offensive punch lines and awkward situations, not as a central campaign for representation or social change.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Bad Thoughts.
Woke representation / casting
Not present. The show uses a mixed guest cast for separate sketches, but it does not make diversity or identity a story message.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Episode 1 jokes about an assassin not assuming a target’s pronouns. Episode 5 has a pilot challenge a comedian over a disability insult and say that words matter. Episode 6 repeats gay-sex jokes before a man says he is gay. Season 2 adds a brief bisexual coming-out joke. These lines recur in several episodes, but they are short and usually mock awkward speech rules rather than teach an activist view.
36%
Identity-driven story themes
The show repeatedly turns gay identity, disability, and pronoun language into shock jokes. The airplane story makes a comedian defend an old disability-related insult. The retreat story centers on anal-sex jokes before a man says he is gay. Season 2 adds a quick coming-out joke and an intimacy-coordinator story about sex-scene rules. These topics stay inside separate sketches and do not guide a lasting character arc or the season’s main idea.
32%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Season 2 has one sketch that uses Jesus and heaven for crude jokes about his body and appearance. Other sketches mock HR rules, an intimacy coordinator, and airport screening. These moments are isolated and do not build a modern activist critique of Western institutions, Christianity, or family life.
10%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The show has no source material or recurring legacy character that it reworks around race, gender, or sexuality.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. Most complaints called the show gross, crude, or unfunny rather than saying it pushed woke or DEI ideas. The supplied X pass found only fringe comments about gay-sex punchlines and no sustained anti-woke campaign, while right-leaning praise was not backlash.
0%
Creator track record context
Tom Segura’s public work is mostly taboo, anti-establishment comedy and carries little identity advocacy. Jeremy Konner has a mixed record that includes stories about overlooked history and inclusive children’s work. Alex English has a strong public queer and Black creative identity and has worked in progressive comedy spaces. Most of the other key creators are known mainly for conventional comedy or production work. That gives the title mixed creator context instead of a strong activist signal.
