2016–2017 · Based on 2 seasons through September 25, 2017 ·
People of Earth follows Ozzie Graham, a New York journalist who travels to Beacon, New York, to write about StarCrossed, a support group for people who say aliens took them. Ozzie starts as a skeptic, but strange visions and buried memories make him question his own past. The group slowly becomes his home as he learns how friendship can help people face fear and grief. The show mixes dry jokes with a warm mystery about aliens living among humans. Across two seasons, the story also follows the aliens who plan an invasion and the human friends who get caught in it.
The show includes a recurring romantic subplot between Jeff and Kurt, two male aliens. Jeff's feelings return in season 2 through grief, affection, and a struggle to confess them. The cast also includes a black lead, a black support-group member, and women leading the group and a major FBI investigation. These elements are visible, but they do not replace the main alien mystery, and the show does not turn them into modern political speeches. The strongest themes remain acceptance, loyalty, and finding people who believe you.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for People of Earth.
Woke representation / casting
Ozzie is a black journalist who leads the main story. Yvonne is a black woman in the recurring support group. Gina runs the group, and Alex is a recurring FBI agent who drives much of season 2. The show does not frame these roles as identity statements or build a repeated pattern of male failure around them.
15%
Woke political dialogue
Not present. The show includes talk about alien control of presidents, media coverups, FBI work, and corporate fraud, but it does not deliver recurring modern activist or identity-political speeches.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Jeff has romantic feelings for Kurt, another male alien. Season 2 returns to those feelings when Jeff kisses Kurt's body, struggles to admit them, and is urged to confess. The show treats this as a tender relationship subplot rather than a political speech. The subplot recurs across season 2 but remains smaller than Ozzie's mystery and the alien power struggle.
38%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. A media company, police officer, and FBI figures are compromised because of the alien plot. The show does not turn those events into a broad attack on capitalism, patriarchy, religion, or Western culture.
0%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. This is an original series about alien abductees. It does not change established characters, source canon, or real historical events.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Not present. No major anti-woke complaints, boycott, or DEI controversy appeared in the reviewed news and public discussion. Available audience comments mostly praised the show or asked for more episodes.
0%
Creator track record context
The creator context gives David Jenkins a woke score of 90/100. Jenkins has a strong record of supporting LGBTQ representation, queer storytelling, and diverse writers' rooms. Ian Fitzgibbon has a cached score of 0/100. Jenkins created the show, so his track record is the main creator-context signal.
