2019–2023 · Based on 4 seasons through October 5, 2023 ·
Tacoma FD follows Chief Terry McConky and Captain Eddie Penisi as they run a fire station in rainy Tacoma, Washington. The crew has few real fires, so the firefighters fill their shifts with pranks and strange calls. Terry tries to keep the station respected while Eddie and the crew chase fun and trouble. The show is an adult workplace comedy about friendship, family ties, and firehouse humor. After the station burns down, the final season follows the crew as it returns, adds a new recruit, and faces more silly problems.
The clearest woke content centers on Lucy McConky, Terry’s daughter and the station’s first female firefighter. Early episodes show the men acting confused about a woman joining them. The crew hazes her, questions the fit of her uniform, and later worries after she is hurt on the job. Lucy eventually becomes a full firefighter and remains part of the main crew. The show also jokes about gendered words and sends the crew to sexual-bias training, but season 4 mostly returns to family problems and firehouse contests.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Tacoma FD.
Woke representation / casting
The show has a mostly male crew with one prominent female firefighter, Lucy. The series presents her as the station’s first woman firefighter, so gender is part of her audience-visible introduction. The wider cast is varied, but the show does not frame the full group as a diversity project.
27%
Woke political dialogue
The show uses short jokes and lines about gender at work. Season 1 jokes about using “firefighter” instead of “fireman” and treats the first female firefighter as a source of confusion. Season 2 uses “female-friendly” uniform talk and “woke AF” jokes during emotional counseling. Season 3 adds lines about gender equality and a sexual-bias seminar, while season 4 has little of this material.
34%
Identity-driven story themes
Lucy’s path from new female firefighter to full station member runs from season 1 through season 3. The crew’s reactions to her gender, hazing, uniform, and job injury shape several stories. The show often lets Lucy prove that she can do the job, but she is not the chief or the main problem solver. Season 4 keeps her in the crew but gives her little new identity-focused story.
38%
Western institutional / cultural critique
The show mocks old male firehouse habits and treats some of them as unfair to women. Season 1 jokes about gendered words and calls the crew’s old customs sexist. Season 2 changes the uniform discussion, and season 3 sends the station to sexual-bias training after a complaint. The jokes weaken the serious message, and the show does not attack Christianity, family life, or Western institutions.
28%
Woke character or canon changes
Not relevant. The show is an original workplace comedy. It does not change an established character, source story, or historical figure.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
A small AR15.com discussion said season 2 became “pretty woke” because of what was being pushed. Other posters in that thread said they had watched every episode and had not seen a woke problem. A later right-leaning thread called the show free of woke content instead of attacking it. The reaction is limited and mixed, and no major news controversy was found.

Creator track record context
The cached creator scores are low, from 0 to 18. Heffernan and Lemme are known for Broken Lizard comedy and have no clear DEI or activist pattern. Jamin has spoken about writer labor, but his cached profile shows no recurring identity-politics focus. The other listed writers, producers, and casting directors also have no strong public activist record.
