Lift follows Cyrus Whitaker, a skilled thief who leads a small crew across Europe. Interpol agent Abby Gladwell catches up with him after a Venice art theft and asks him to help stop a dangerous plan. Cyrus and his team must steal $500 million in gold from a passenger plane flying 40,000 feet above the ground. The movie uses fast action, jokes, romance, and large set pieces, so its tone stays light even when people are in danger.
The clearest audience-visible identity element is the mixed international crew, which includes black leads, a Spanish pilot, a Korean tech expert, and an Indian engineer. The team’s skills drive the action, while race and culture stay in the background. Abby is a strong Interpol agent who rejects her boss after he risks civilian lives and then joins Cyrus’s crew. The film ends by stressing loyalty, trust, teamwork, and the thrill of a difficult crime.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Lift.
Woke representation / casting
The main team has two black leads, a Spanish pilot, a Korean tech expert, and an Indian engineer. Abby is a skilled Interpol agent, Camila flies the escape aircraft, and Mi-Sun handles key technology. This creates a repeated pattern of women and minority actors in important expert roles. The global heist setting supports a mixed team, and the film does not present the casting as a diversity campaign.
27%

Not present. The characters discuss the heist, law enforcement, danger, money, and romance. The film contains no modern activist or identity-based political speeches.
0%
Identity-driven story themes
Not present. The story follows criminals who try to stop a terrorist financing plan. Its main themes are loyalty, trust, teamwork, romance, and crime rather than race, gender, sexuality, or identity politics.
0%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Not present. The film shows an Interpol boss making a reckless choice and a rich criminal abusing power. These events support the heist plot and do not become a wider attack on Western institutions, family life, religion, or capitalism.
