Mr. Right follows Martha McKay, a young woman in New Orleans who tries to recover after her boyfriend cheats on her. Martha meets Francis, a charming man who is also a highly trained hitman. Francis follows a strange rule because he kills the people who hire him instead of killing their targets. Their romance grows as criminals, former partners, and police move closer to them. The film combines romance, fast fights, dark jokes, and very silly action.
The film shows Martha as an active female action partner instead of a helpless girlfriend. Martha learns Francis's fighting style, joins the violence, and shoots one of the main attackers near the end. The story presents her change as personal freedom within a strange romance between two violent outsiders. Promotion and interviews connect her unusual role to a desire to challenge Hollywood's male dominated habits. This idea has a clear but small effect because the film treats it mainly as dark comedy rather than as a political message.

Creator track record context
Paco Cabezas has no reported pattern of activist or diversity focused filmmaking. Max Landis has also worked mainly in genre stories without identity politics. Cabezas described this film as a way to challenge Hollywood's male dominated habits through its female lead. This detail gives a small context signal, but it does not show a broad creator track record.
