Ali is a young filmmaker who loves whales and dolphins. He sets out to show how beautiful the ocean is, then finds animals dying and seas under heavy stress. The film follows him around the world as he looks at fishing, plastic waste, dolphin hunts, fish farms, and crime at sea. The tone is urgent, personal, and built like a detective story about a big industry cover-up.
The score is driven by loud green and animal-rights activism, not race, gender, or queer identity politics. Viewers hear clear sermons against eating fish, claims that “sustainable” seafood labels fail, and attacks on big fishing firms and some ocean charities. There are hard scenes about slave labor on boats and illegal fishing, framed as crime and cruelty. That is strong activist messaging a normal viewer cannot miss. It is mainly about oceans, animals, and food choices, not DEI casting or identity swaps.

Breakdown
These are the editorial factors and ratings behind our score for Seaspiracy.
Woke representation / casting
Real-world documentary with the filmmaker and experts, fishers, and survivors who fit the investigation. Not scripted “diversity casting” or identity hires for hero roles.
0%
Woke political dialogue
Hard-to-miss activist speech: stop eating fish, “sustainable” seafood is fake or weak, plastic straws are a distraction, and commercial fishing is the real enemy. Strong eco and animal-rights lectures, not race or gender identity lectures.
52%
Identity-driven story themes
Story is oceans, overfishing, nets, dolphins, and labor abuse at sea. Slavery and trafficking are shown as crime and cruelty, not modern race/gender identity politics. Queer or DEI identity plots are not the core.
5%
Western institutional / cultural critique
Strong attacks on fishing companies and on big labels/NGOs as misleading or useless. That is activist industry-and-charity distrust. It is not about toxic masculinity, family norms, or attacks on Christianity.
22%
Woke character or canon changes
Not present in this title.
0%
Anti-woke backlash and complaints
Loud fight over bad stats, editing, and vegan agenda. Industry called it indoctrination. Little sustained right-side claim that the film pushes DEI, race quotas, or gender identity politics. Evidence for pure anti-woke backlash is weak.
15%
Creator track record context
Cached creators are mainly ocean, vegan, and animal-rights activists (scores in the 20s–low 30s), with Dale Vince higher as a progressive political activist. Pattern is green advocacy more than identity/DEI work.
