Buster Moon is a koala who owns a worn theater in a city of talking animals. He cannot pay the bills, so he plans a singing contest to bring in crowds and save the theater. Five main acts enter the contest, including a pig mother with 25 children, a gorilla whose father wants him in a crime gang, a porcupine rocker, a shy elephant, and a mouse who gambles. The comedy follows their auditions, family problems, practice, and pop song performances. Rosita cares for her 25 piglets and builds a machine to handle chores so she can rehearse. Her family cheers when she performs, though the story also shows her husband missing how much work she does at home. Ash leaves a boyfriend who cheats on her and doubts her skill, then writes and performs her own song. Meena faces her fear of crowds, and Johnny chooses music over his father’s robbery crew. These stories focus on family, music, and following personal goals, with little political content.
