The film follows an unnamed professional killer who travels to a cold, quiet mountain town for a secret job. His boss gives him only a time, a place, and a strange clue. He must decide which diner guest is the target before other killers find him. The local diner holds several possible targets, and every stranger seems dangerous. The film has a bleak, slow noir tone with voice-over, sudden violence, and a final betrayal.
The story centers on guilt, conscience, and the cost of treating murder as a craft. A botched job leaves an innocent mother dead and shakes the killer's belief in his own control. The mentor's wartime story adds a dark warning about cruelty and obedience. The film uses repeated rules and inner instructions to show the killer's closed mind. The killer's growing concern for another person becomes a test of whether he can change.
