Scrat follows his acorn into a frozen spaceship and accidentally sends an asteroid toward Earth. Manny, Ellie, Sid, Diego, Peaches, and their friends leave home to find a way to stop it. They travel through strange places and meet Buck again, while Scrat's chase keeps changing space around them. The movie mixes bright animation, physical jokes, romance, and a silly family adventure. The opening frames the universe's origin as a joke about a plan, chance, and Scrat's foolish luck. Peaches also beats Manny at their ice game and says she rules the ice. Manny later accepts her marriage and her choice to leave home, while the herd stays close as a family. Sid searches for love, and Diego and Shira think about raising a family.
